As well, all paid subscription revenues will be donated by me to justice, equity, empowerment, or service oriented nonprofit organizations.
So, why do this? To give you an opportunity to support more closely some of the justice work this Substack is intended to promote.
To start, 100% of subscription fees paid will be used to fund donations or essential supplies to support REST, a faith-based organization offering survivor-centered, trauma-informed services for hundreds exploited in the Seattle area sex trade annually. Their mission is to expand pathways to freedom, safety and hope in order to end sex trafficking. Although a Christian organization, REST provides respectful services to individuals of all faiths. Their values focus on unconditional care, relationships, strengths, minimizing barriers, and walking with clients on their journey to freedom.
The standard paid option on Substack is $5 per month or $50 per year. Plus, there is an option to become a Founder at $150 per year. Here’s what those sums might mean to REST’s mission in terms of help.
$5 covers the assembly of a reusable, durable bag with 10 essential hygiene items given to REST clients and survivors to support their transition out of trafficking
$50 covers a full lunch for all shelter guests and the entire staff, further building trust and community during a transition out of trafficking
$150 pays for an emergency hotel room for a survivor fleeing their trafficker, providing safety during a risky escape
Again, 100% of subscription fees paid will be used to support REST, meaning I will cover any fees charged by Substack.
In the future as paid subscriptions grow, I’ll consider adding other nonprofit organizations, and will share that news as the list grows.
So, what will you get in return for becoming a paid subscriber? Continued receipt of a new articles each week to read and share, full access to the archive of older articles, plus additional resources like quiet times, study guides, small group discussion guides, ebooks and other justice-related resources to be added approximately once a month starting next month.
But also the satisfaction of knowing that every dollar of your subscription fee will go to support the good and noble work of REST, helping them free individuals exploited in or transitioning out of human trafficking. And other organizations in the future as they’re added.
